I use FCP with a Sony pc-5
what are your capture problems?
first thing to do is to check what version of 'Firewire enabler' you have 2.5is the latest
go into the 'apple system profiler' and look in the extensions section.
also what preferences are you using for capture (I use no compression frame rate at 25fps and a custom size 640 by 360 )

okay more details on this problem of mine... when i try to 'play' clips in the viewer or canvas windows it says 'unrendered', but i know the file i'm using/editing is okay. i can even drag the playhead through the clip and view each frame like this but as soon as i hit the play button i get nothing, even the sound works , but no visual, jus tthis weird 'unrendered, and yet the clip is there... aaragh!! anyone out there with any ideas?

i know how to render the clips, that's not the problem is. my argument is that it's not letting me even view my clip in the timeline unless i rneder and i know that you don't have to render it to view it... i've done it before...

select the clip in the time bar by clicking on it and press the 'apple key' and 'r' together
that'll render the clip

you have to render the files to a lower res. this allows your system to run faster and to view any filters transitions etc.if you don't render you can only view the stills and not play back. You'll find that even higgh powered Avid systems operate this way.
as soon as you've captured you can play that clip unrendered.but once it's been dropped into the timeline you should render it.
Can you also clarrify if this is a help request or an arguement????
